About the North York Guide
The North York Guide is more than just an email—it's a community project.
As long-time residents, we've always believed our neighborhood is full of incredible events, hidden gems, and stories that are easy to miss. We created this guide to change that.
Our mission is simple: to help you feel more connected to your neighborhood. Every Friday morning, we share a quick, five-minute read with the best of North York, from family outings and cultural festivals to seasonal activities and the latest local news. We do the digging so you can spend less time searching and more time enjoying where you live.
We are for residents, by a resident.
How we make this guide
We don't just scrape listings or rehash press releases. Every page on North York Guide starts with a simple question: what are people in the neighbourhood actually talking about?
We listen first. Our process begins with r/askTO and r/toronto threads, TikTok reviews from local creators, and Instagram discussions and Google reviews. That's where the real signal lives — the spots your neighbours are actually talking about, in their own words.
Real quotes, not paraphrased blurbs. Every listing on the site carries verbatim quotes from locals — Reddit commenters, Google reviewers, TikTok creators, Instagram regulars. You see the exact words they used, with their name or handle and the platform, so you can judge for yourself whether a spot sounds like your kind of place.
We verify before we publish. Every venue, address, phone number, and event date is cross-checked against Google Places and the business's own site or official social channels. If a hot pot spot closed last week, it's not going on our list. If a festival moved to a new location, you'll see the new one.
We're working on this guide every day. This isn't a yearly "Best of" list that goes stale. Food and activity guides are on an active refresh rotation, event pages are scanned weekly while the event is upcoming, and evergreen guides — trails, parks, local services — are reviewed on a rolling basis. When something changes mid-cycle, we update the page immediately and note the "Updated" date so you always know how current it is.
A real person reads every page. A North York resident reviews each guide before it goes live. That's the whole point — you're getting a neighbourhood perspective, not a generic listicle.
If you ever spot something that's out of date or just plain wrong, let us know. We'll fix it fast.
