Why North York Businesses Advertise Here

Most readers arrive from a Google search for something specific — a patio, a drop-in skating rink, a dentist near Yonge and Sheppard. That's a different kind of attention than a social feed. They're already looking for what you sell.

Sessions to North York Guide grew 36% month over month between Jul 9 and Aug 7, 2026 (Google Analytics), and 62% of visitors are based in Toronto. 78% arrive from search — meaning most of the audience typed a question about a North York place and landed on an answer, a genuine local-intent signal, not a scroll-past impression.

The reader who searches "best patios in North York" is closer to a decision than the reader who scrolls past an ad.— North York Guide

A sponsored placement puts your business inside that answer — in the hub a resident is already reading — labeled clearly as sponsored, never disguised as an editorial pick.

Rates

There's one placement: a sponsored article that lives in Local Food, Local Services, or Local Events — whichever hub your customers are already reading — plus a banner in that hub surfacing it. The only question is who writes the article.

Option You provide Price
You write it The article and the photos $50/mo
We write it The photos and a short brief $100 one-timethen $50/mo

What We Need From You

Send these and your placement goes live within five business days. Photos are the one thing we can't produce for you — we don't use stock or AI imagery for a real business, so what you send is what readers see.

Both options

Photos

One lead image, 1024 × 1024
Square. Every hub hero on the site is this size, so yours sits in the layout without cropping.
Two to four supporting photos, 800 × 800
Same square crop as the listing photos already on our guide pages.
JPEG or PNG, up to 5 MB each
Send the largest version you have. We convert to WebP with a JPEG fallback and handle compression.
Real photos of your business
Your space, your team, your product. No stock libraries, no AI generations, no watermarks or text burned into the image.
Rights to publish
You either own the photos or have permission to use them. We'll ask you to confirm this in writing once.
If you write it — $50/mo

The article

600 – 900 words
Long enough to be worth reading, short enough that you can write it in an afternoon. Our editorial guides run 1,400 – 4,000 words, so this reads as a focused piece rather than a padded one.
Plain text or a Google Doc
No HTML, no formatting tricks. Headings marked as plain lines are fine.
The practical facts
Address, hours, price range, what you actually do, and one link you want readers to click.
Claims we can check
Anything factual — "family-run since 1998," "licensed," an award — needs to be verifiable. We check, and we'll ask you for a source.
We copy-edit for house style
Spelling, punctuation, and rhythm so it reads like the rest of the site. We won't change what you're claiming without asking you first.
If we write it — $100 one-time

A short brief

A page of notes is plenty
Roughly 200 words. What you do, who comes to you, what you'd want a neighbour to know.
The same practical facts
Address, hours, price range, and the link you want readers to click.
One round of changes
You see a draft before anything publishes and can send corrections once. Factual fixes after that are always free.
Written in our voice, labeled as yours
We write it the way we write everything else, and it carries the "Sponsored" label from the first line.

Not sure your photos will work? Email them before you commit and we'll tell you honestly.

See It Live

Every sponsored placement uses this exact component, wherever it appears on the site — same gold border, same "Sponsored" label, every time.

How We Handle Sponsored Content

Advertising pays for North York Guide to keep doing local reporting. It doesn't change what we say.

Frequently Asked

What do I get for $50 a month?

A sponsored article in the hub your customers already read — Local Food, Local Services, or Local Events — plus a banner in that hub surfacing it. A dental practice sits in Local Services, a restaurant in Local Food. It's labeled sponsored, held to the same editorial standard as the rest of the page, and never placed inside a ranked list. At $50 a month you write the article and send the photos.

How many people will see it?

North York Guide logged 4,358 sessions a month between Jul 9 and Aug 7, 2026 (Google Analytics), with 78% of visitors arriving from search and 62% based in Toronto. Traffic to the specific page carrying your placement varies by topic and season, and we'll tell you what a given page is doing before you commit.

Do you write the sponsored article?

Either way works, and that's the only difference between the two prices. If you write it, the placement is $50/month. If you'd rather we write it, that's $100 one-time plus the same $50/month — you send photos and about a page of notes, we write it in North York Guide's voice, and you see a draft before anything publishes. It carries the sponsored label from the first line. Full requirements →

What if I don't have photos?

Then we can't run the placement yet. We don't use stock or AI imagery for a real business — a reader who shows up expecting what they saw in the photo is the entire point. Phone photos in good light are genuinely fine. Email them before you commit and we'll tell you honestly whether they'll work.

Can I buy a better ranking?

No. Rankings are never paid for, at any rate: sponsors are clearly labeled and never appear in the ranked list. A sponsored placement is a separate, labeled unit — it doesn't put a business into a ranking, and it doesn't change how a business that's there on its own merit is ranked.

What won't you accept?

We decline advertisers whose product or service we wouldn't recommend to a neighbor. That's the standard we apply, not a fixed category list, and we'll tell you directly if that's the case.

How do I pay?
